Application Process for Instrumental Music
The Qld Instrumental Music Program here at Gracemere aims to foster each child's musical ability. It allows students to have free lessons each week by a qualified String teacher, and to participate in our Gracemere Strings Ensemble.
Tuition is offered on Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. Weekly instruction includes a 30 minute group lesson in school time and an ensemble rehearsal during a lunch break.
Parents are expected to purchase a tutor book, music stand and some disposable items eg. rosin. While there is no charge for the weekly instructions, there is an annual levy that contributes towards instrumental repairs, maintenance, accessories and music photocopying.
The school has a pool of instruments that students can access for their first year of instruction. There is an expectation that after the first 12 months of loan, students will purchase their own instrument, particularly smaller instruments such as violins and violas.
The big commitment is your time and encouragement to make sure your child practises at home to improve. It is suggested that students play their instrument for 10 minutes 4 times a week.
We begin recruiting students in term 4 from Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the following years String Program. Instruments offered are Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.
We normally have a short demonstration of each instrument at parade or a separate concert. Instruments are also discussed throughout their Classroom Music lessons, and then a Recruitment Note will be sent home for you to fill in.

A suitability testing of each student is completed with the Instrumental Music Specialist. Further tests take place with the student's class teacher, School Music teacher and School Principal.
An acceptance / waiting list letter is then sent out and students are then expected to begin their tuition the following year.
